NOYA RAO PINA

Leeds four-piece Noya Rao seem to have a deeper understanding of electronic textures than most. ‘Pina’ displays a mesmerising ability to place smooth bass synths beneath an airy lead vocal, using a collection of synth sounds to form a luscious soundscape that fills the gaps. The quartet explain that “the song is a story of casual intimacy - the voice plays through the events of a night of two people meeting and invents a narrative for the life of the lover they have just spent the night with.” Their heavily electronic take on soul music has seen them gain a lot of support over the last few years, with their desire to maintain full creative control over their output meaning that everything we see and hear from them is pure Noya Rao. - Dan Peeke
